A Strange New Life
1. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?:
I don’t really predict, but I was pretty disappointed with the amount of fic I wrote this year. I definitely stopped drabbling as much as I did last year.
2. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?:
I wrote Dollhouse fic, which wasn’t even on my radar last year. I also did Gilmore Girls, which wasn’t so out there, but usually my fic spurts on an irregular fandom comes right after a marathon, and this is came months later.
3. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I’m actually a big fan of Beautifully Irrational. It’s fairly fluffy, but with an edge of seriousness to it. I think that I got the B/A dialog down. I can also still read it without flinching, which is saying something, considering some of the company it’s in.
4. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I finally started writing Brennan. It’s literally taken years, but I finally figured out what to do. For me, the perfect balance between Brennan’s distance and her humanity is gained by writing her in second person. And I’m really proud of how those turned out, and not just because of the second person, which I really like working with anyway.
5. Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
As always, I want to write more frequently. I’d like to start doing chapter fic (the reviews! Oh, the reviews!! [Shut up, self-centered side.]) and maybe even do something original.
6. From my past year of writing, what was...
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
Definitely A Strange New Life, just because Dollhouse has such a small fandom that there weren’t really a lot of people who were going to read it anyway. It was also short fic, which generally garners fewer reviews.
Most Fun:
All around, probably Beautifully Irrational again. Everything else definitely had a sharply angsty bent to it.
Most Disappointing:
I went back and forth about whether or not to post A Little Dysfunctionality Goes a Long Way. In the end I posted because I shamelessly adore reviews. But I hate reading it. Like improperly sealed wine, it gets worse with age. It’s just really melodramatic and it bums me out.
Most Sexy:
NEVER NEVER NEVER do I have an answer to this question for me. The closest I get is kissing and implied sex. VERY VERY conservative stuff.
Hardest to Write:
God in heaven, Create a Silence in Your Soul took a long time. It went through so many stages. The way it turned out is not the way it started at all. I’m really happy with how it came out in the end, but just ask kairosimperfect how annoying it was to get there. According to my computer, I started writing the story in early December of 2010. Usually that means two weeks or so of imagining writing in my head. I finished writing a few days before submitting it. Which means nearly a year of writing, although there was one huge block in the middle.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
All my fic has a kind of fluffy-angsty-shippy thing going on that is basically me. There aren’t any that I think expressed that more or less.
Choice Lines:
This is going to make me sound like the most obnoxious person in the world, but I actually can't choose. If you see something you like, that can be your choice line.
